Project launch IKTres: Resilient Communication for Smart Distribution Networks
Through the IKTres innovation project, launched in May, PPC is working with partners from the research and energy sectors to develop preventive and corrective measures to make information and communication technology (ICT) in smart distribution grids more resilient to disruptions and outages. The focus is on the infrastructure of smart metering systems (iMSys), the network management system (NMS), and the digital grid twin.

With the SMGWplus, Energy Metering aims to further advance the digitization and scaling of its rollout. At the same time, the solution lays the groundwork for new and existing B2B partnerships. Spanning more than 100 m², the center provides a modern environment for development and live demonstrations of the intelligent metering system, CLS components, communication technologies, and the Network Management System (NMS). With more than 1,000 test stations, the entire spectrum from interoperability to development support can be covered.
Digital controllability check: SISSY consortium demonstrates a new approach to verifying controllability
With its digital control check based on intelligent metering systems (iMSys), the SISSY consortium is demonstrating a new, scalable method for verifying the controllability of generation plants. This approach makes it possible to verify basic controllability efficiently, in a manner that benefits the grid, and without the need for physical intervention or test-based curtailment of renewable generation capacity.

Energy Metering, Calisen and PPC conclude largest meter asset provider agreement for the German market
Strong momentum for the rollout of smart meters in Germany: PPC, Energy Metering and Calisen conclude the largest Meter Asset Provider (MAP) agreement for the German market. In the MAP model, Calisen purchases and owns intelligent metering systems (iMSys) and leases these assets to wMSB Energy Metering on a long-term basis. As a competitive metering point operator, Energy Metering installs the iMSys as part of its services by its own customers. Calisen is thus making international capital available for the German smart meter rollout.
SMA and PPC are making hundreds of thousands of households ready for the smart grid – with just a software update
This is what practical interoperability looks like: The inverter expert SMA from Niestetal and the Mannheim-based smart meter gateway manufacturer PPC have jointly developed a groundbreaking solution that makes not only new photovoltaic systems but also existing systems throughout Germany controllable via a firmware update – and thus fit for the smart grid of the future.
Nuremberg relies on BPL for its Smart Meter rollout
The Nuremberg-based energy company N-ERGIE has come to a positive conclusion after months of the first joint pilot project with PPC and its service subsidiary, Coms4Grid. Thanks to PPCs Broadband Powerline (BPL) communication technology, the roll-out of smart meters in Nuremberg and Hüttenheim is taking place in both urban and rural areas.
GE Vernova and PPC demonstrate successful interoperability for broadband communications in power grids
