The high cyber security requirements associated with the smart meter gateway roll-out place particular demands on reuse and the associated processes, because: once a smart meter gateway has been installed and commissioned, personal data is recorded in the form of meter readings, user profiles and log data. To protect personal data, it has therefore not previously been possible to reuse smart meter gateways after their initial installation and commissioning.
The ‘DoDeleteUserData’ function, now implemented by PPC, lays the groundwork for reuse and enables a smart meter gateway that has already been commissioned to be reinstalled at a different location.
Greater sustainability for the roll-out
The new function was implemented as part of the implementation of TR-03109-1 V2.
With the certified “DoDeleteUserData” function, it will in future be possible to delete personal data from the smart meter gateway when there is a change of user. Data required, for example, for metrological checks is stored in the backend in accordance with the specified time limits.
Functioning devices remain in service and can continue to be used. This offers significant advantages for metering point operators:
- More efficient operational and roll-out processes
- More sustainable use of resources
Available with TR-03109-1 V2 certification
‘DoDeleteUserData’ provides a solution that combines data protection, cost-effectiveness and sustainability. The ability to safely reuse smart meter gateways reduces costs whilst supporting the sustainable roll-out of SMGWs. The function will be available upon completion of certification in accordance with TR-03109-1 V2.
