Smart Metering

Electricity meters become smart with the help of our communications technologies. Our smart meter gateways and communications technologies ensure highly secure data communication. This offers data access to the end customer, the utility and other stakeholders without compromising end user privacy or endangering the security of the grid.

As the rollout of smart meters proceeds, and even where smart meters are not available, we are helping our customers to achieve their data communication goals efficiently and successfully, supporting them in all processes related to the planning, installation and operation of the communications infrastructure.

Energy Metering, Calisen and PPC conclude largest meter asset provider agreement for the German market

Strong momentum for the rollout of smart meters in Germany: PPC, Energy Metering and Calisen conclude the largest Meter Asset Provider (MAP) agreement for the German market. In the MAP model, Calisen purchases and owns intelligent metering systems (iMSys) and leases these assets to wMSB Energy Metering on a long-term basis. As a competitive metering point operator, Energy Metering installs the iMSys as part of its services by its own customers. Calisen is thus making international capital available for the German smart meter rollout.

Energy Metering relies on EEBUS relay converters from Weidmüller and PPC to accelerate the control rollout

The EEBUS Relay Converter (ERC) enables digital control even where only relay switching inputs are available – and is therefore ready to accelerate the control rollout with immediate effect. The product was developed jointly by PPC and Weidmüller. Energy Metering, a subsidiary of Octopus Energy, a competitive metering point operator, was also involved from the outset. The solution will simplify the implementation of Section 14a of the German Energy Industry Act (EnWG) and Section 9 of the German Renewable Energy Sources Act (EEG). Delivery will start in mid-2026.
