Power Plus Communications AG (PPC) and its subsidiary Coms4Grid, together with Pfalzwerke Netz AG, have successfully launched a large-scale WAN-as-a-Service project. The rollout began in early October 2025 and marks an important step toward the digitization of the energy infrastructure in Rhineland-Palatinate.
The international event brought together leading technology providers to demonstrate the practical interoperability of Nessum-based broadband powerline (BPL) devices for medium- and low-voltage grids under real-world conditions.
As part of the project, 300 smart meter gateways (SMGWs), including the necessary BPL modems, will be installed in a wide variety of locations, ranging from street distribution boxes to transformer stations. The project was divided into two pilot projects, each addressing the specific requirements of urban and rural environments, respectively.
