Consumer Transparency & Rates
Consumption transparency is the foundation for many services and a key driver of digitalization; it is also one of the core requirements of the EU Energy Efficiency Directive, which is currently being transposed into national law. Furthermore, consumption transparency is a prerequisite for efficiency, variable rates, and energy optimization. The smart meter gateway provides the necessary information through high-frequency meter readings and utilizes standardized rate application scenarios.
Disaggregation
High-resolution data provides end customers with transparent insight into their energy consumption and enables them to identify energy-wasting devices. Decisions regarding rate plans or investments—such as in energy storage—cannot be made without detailed data. Using modern disaggregation algorithms, analyses can even be performed automatically and solutions identified. The value of high-resolution data becomes clear when deviations from normal behavior can be detected even in non-energy-related applications—such as senior care—allowing caregivers, for example, to be alerted in a timely manner.
Variable Rates
Smart metering systems enable variable and customized rates. These allow end users to benefit from price differences in the wholesale electricity market and/or take advantage of a rate plan that is best suited to their consumption patterns. This also creates economic incentives for adjusting consumption patterns and increasing load flexibility.
