The Secure Supply Chain (SiLKE)
The secure supply chain is designed to prevent or detect any tampering with smart meter gateways—from production through installation at the end customer’s site. In addition, it is intended, above all, to effectively prevent tampered or uncertified devices from being introduced into the installation process without being detected.
Our secure supply chain is based on sturdy, reusable transport boxes equipped with a special locking system. These boxes are opened and closed using an electronic key with a unique code. Authorized personnel (such as installers) receive a specific one-time code from the PPC portal for each opening and closing operation. This code expires after use and is therefore worthless to a potential attacker.
The transport boxes are used throughout the entire transport route, from production to the installation site, and also serve as storage units. The equipment can be transported by a freight carrier in the usual manner. No structural modifications to existing storage facilities are necessary.
We work with two different box sizes:
- Skybox for transporting up to 1,660 gateways (pallet enclosure)
- Safety Box for up to 80 gateways
